Welcome to Hawkeye Mutual Insurance Association

Farmers Mutual Fire and Lightning Insurance Association of Jasper County Iowa was organized on January 7, 1875 in Newton Iowa by a group of local farmers.

The original minutes record that the purpose of forming the insurance company was that “The Farming Community have long felt the necessity of a cheaper and safer fire insurance than that which they now have and of retaining at home the large sums of money annually taken from them without adequate compensation.”

On January 9. 1947 the name was shortened to Jasper Mutual Insurance Association and on October 12, 1989 the name was changed to better reflect our writing territory to Hawkeye Mutual Insurance Association. Today, as it was in 1875, the management and board of directors are committed to its purpose of organization over 137 years ago.
